PlantPlus®, a consumer quality mark
One of the pillars of the Dutch horticultural industry is the wide range of woody ornamentals and perennials.
The introduction of novelties contributes to a continuous process of selection, renewal and user value data. In order to optimise the use of the novelties introduced and to market the products involved, the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (RBHS), in co-operation with Plant Publicity Holland (PPH), has initiated the quality mark PlantPlus®.
The quality mark has two objectives. First, it is to assist consumers in making the right choices. Second, it is to direct producers in choosing what to grow.
PlantPlus® plants need to meet two requirements. First, the cultivar must have been proven healthy and strong during a number of years, and it needs to have good user and/or ornamental value. The second requirement is that is has to be sufficiently available for the end-user.
The PlantPlus® list is regularly updated with new cultivars. Besides, the list will be revised every 5 years. In this way, the PlantPlus® list will remain up to date.
